Below is a guide to assist you in the application and use of your veteran education benefits as well as beginning your pathway to success in college and your career.  For more information, questions or concerns regarding your veteran education benefits and applying for admissions to San Jacinto College, please contact your Veterans Center at 281-998-6150 x1366.

VA FIRST STEPS TO ENROLL

STEP 1.  GET ADMITTED

  • Complete an application:

STEP 2.   PLACEMENT TESTING

Most Veterans are exempt from college placement testing.  Meet with a VA Educational Planner to determine if testing is needed prior to enrollment. 

  • Legacy or new first time in college students should complete the Accuplacer Pre Assessment Activity (PAA):

STEP 3.   MENINGITIS VACCINATION

Proof of bacterial meningitis vaccination must be submitted to the Admissions Office prior to class registration.  **College students under the age of 22 years old are required to have the vaccination. **

STEP 4.   ORIENTATION

It is mandatory for all first time in college students, including former Dual Credit students, to attend New Student Orientation (NSO) prior to registering for classes.

  • Sign up online via your SOS account.
  • Sign up for a Veteran Benefit Review online through the appointment scheduler:

STEP 5.  CLAIM YOUR SOS ACCOUNT

  • Click First Time User
  • Contact TechSupport at 281-998-6137 if you receive an error

STEP 6.  TRANSCRIPTS

REQUIRED: all official transcripts from high school (if first time in college or applying for financial aid), and college, university, and military transcript

  • Request your Military Transcripts (Army, Marine, Navy, Coast Guard):

STEP 8. CHANGE OF PROGRAM/ PLACE OF TRAINING FORM

(If attending another college or to change your program)

  • Complete the Change of Program/Place Training form (VA Form 1995)

STEP 10.  MEET WITH VA EDUCATIONAL PLANNER 

Discuss test results, degree plans, and course requirements. Schedule an appointment by choosing “Veterans”:

  • Login to your SOS account to search for classes and build your class schedule. 

STEP 11.  CERTIFICATION REQUEST

Once registered for classes submit your documents via the online certification request:

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:

  • Certificate of Eligibility (If Veteran served after 9-11-2001) 
  • DD214 of the Service Member 4 or 7 copy
  • Schedule Fee Bill (Displays the courses you are enrolled in, and the cost of tuition and   fees)
    • Save document as a pdf (print to pdf) on your computer to upload.
  • Detailed Degree Evaluation (Displays the courses you are enrolled in, on your degree plan)  
    • Save document as a pdf (print to pdf) on your computer to upload.
  • Military transcript

Hazlewood (Hazlewood Veteran, Hazlewood Legacy, Hazlewood Dependent Child/ Spouse)

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:

  • Full Hazlewood Application submitted once a year in the fall or your first semester each calendar year:
