The Accuplacer ESL placement test is used to place students into appropriate English as a Second Language and/or English as a Non-Native Language classes. The Accuplacer ESL is composed of five tests - Language Usage, Reading Skills, Sentence Meaning, Listening, WritePlacer ESL. All three components of the Accuplacer ESL measure competence within a meaning-dependent environment. The entire test is multiple choice.
The ESL Language Use measures your ability to use correct grammar in English.
The ESL Reading measures your ability to read English. The test consists of comprehension of short passages and inference skills.
The ESL Sentence Meaning measure your ability to understand the meaning of sentences written in English. The sentences are based on various subjects such as history, science, practical situations, etc.
The ESL Listening measures your ability to understand English when it is spoken.
The WritePlacer ESL measures your ability to type an essay. The essay will need to include word use, sentence use, grammar, organization and development. You will receive a holistic score upon completion.
Each campus allows walk-in testing for the Accuplacer ESL test. You will need to see an Admissions Advsior to obtain a Testing Request Form and you can bring the form along with your photo identification card to start testing.
