Apprentice mate (Steersman) Western Rivers Navigation is a 1-day USCG approved course that provides the student with knowledge and understanding of: Navigation charts, river hydrology, bridges and locks, aids to navigation, Vessel Traffic Services System, and USACE electronic charting.
Student who successfully complete the Apprentice mate (Steersman) Western Rivers Navigation course and present their Certificate of Training within one year of the completion of training, will satisfy the Navigation General examination requirements to add a Western Rivers route to a license as Apprentice Mate (Steersman) Inland or Near Coastal
