Basic Training Refresher is a 3-day USCG & STCW approved course provides students refresher training in the four Basic Training courses – Basic Firefighting, Personal Safety & Social Responsibility, Personal Survival, and First Aid & CPR and is required when the mariner cannot meet the requirement for 1 year of sea service within the last 5 years as described in 46 CFR 11.302(c) or 46 CFR 12.602(c).
This course is for applicants who cannot meet the requirements for one year of sea service within the last 5 years, as described in 46 CFR 11.302 (c) or 46 CFR 12.602 (c). The course combines both theory taught in the classroom and practical training and assessments with live fire exercises at an approved fire field, water survival training in a pool, and elementary first aid and CPR techniques. Student should have the agility, strength and flexibility to rapidly don firefighting personal protection equipment, capable of physical labor, handling moderate weights up to 60 pounds, swim while wearing a flotation device, and float unassisted in a pool. Pursuant to National Maritime center policy letter 11-02 appropriate photo identification is required for enrollment into a USCG approved course. It shall be the policy of this school that all students provide appropriate photo identification upon enrollment in not just this course but also any course.
Students who successfully complete Basic Training Refresher will satisfy the approved refresher training requirements of 46 CFR 11.302(a) or 46 CFR 12.602(e).
