Basic Ship Handling & Steering Control System is a 5-day USCG & STCW approved course that provides students with the knowledge and understanding of turning circles and stopping distances in deep and shallow water, man overboard procedures, anchoring and many other facets of ship handling and steering control for the officer in Charge of a Navigation Watch.
Students who has successfully complete the Basic Ship Handling & Steering Control System course will satisfy the competency requirements of Table A-II/1 of the STCW, as amended 2010, and the tasks listed below from NVIC 12-14, for Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch on Vessels of 500 GT or More and will satisfy the training requirements of 46 CFR 11.309(a)(4)(xi); and the following Tasks from Enclosure (3) to NVIC 12-14: 1.8.A, 1.8.B, 9.1.A, 9.2.A, 9.3.A, 9.4.A, AND 9.5.A.
