Chief Mate / Master Assessment course is a 12-day USCG & STCW approved course where students will demonstrate their competence to: Plan and conduct navigation, plan a voyage, determine and allow for compass error, coordinate Search and Rescue Operations, establish watchkeeping arrangements and procedures, maintain safe navigation through the use of radar and ARPA, forecast weather and oceanographic conditions, respond to navigational emergencies, maneuver and handle ship in all conditions and plan and ensure safe loading, stowage, securing and care of cargo during cargo operations.
