Global Maritime Distress & Safety System (GMDSS)

GMDSS is a 9-day USCG & STCW approved course that provides students with the knowledge and understanding of GMDSS theory and equipment. It also provides students with a comprehensive overview of radio and satellite communications as well as proper and legal operation of marine radio communication equipment such as Digital Selective Calling (DSC) and emergency communications.
Students who successfully complete GMDSS will satisfy the training requirements of 46 CFR 11.305(a)(3)(viii); 46 CFR 11.307(a)(3)(viii); 46 CFR 11.309(a)(4)(xv); 46 CFR 11.311(a)(3)(ix); 46 CFR 11.313(a)(3)(ix); 46 CFR 11.315(a)(3)(vi); and 46 CFR 11.319(a)(4)(ix).
