Officer in Charge of Engine Watch (OICEW) – Electrical Machinery & Basic Electronics (EMBE) is a 20-day USCG & STCW approved course that provides students with the knowledge, understanding and proficiency of basic configuration and operation principles of electrical, electronic and control equipment.
Students who successfully complete Officer in Charge of Engine Watch (OICEW) – Electrical Machinery & Basic Electronics (EMBE) the course will satisfy the OICEW Electrical Machinery and Basic Electronics (SANJCC – ) training requirements of 46 CFR 11.329(a)(4)(x) for STCW endorsements as OICEW on vessels on vessels powered by main propulsion machinery of 750 kW / 1,000 HP propulsion power or more; and receive 90 days sea service credit towards the upgrading of their unlimited third assistant engineer license. This sea service credit may not be used for recency. Students will be credited with the following specific tasks from the Officer in Charge of an Engineering Watch 6.1.A, 6.1.B, 6.1.C, 6.1.D, 6.1.E, and 6.2.A.
