Artist: Martín Ivy
In his latest solo exhibition, Martín Ivy draws from his childhood fascination with aviation and the concept of space disorientation in an attempt to straddle the liminal realm between the physical world and the energetic fields and frequencies of the unknown.
Sourcing the galleries movable walls, the configuration was inspired by the concept of a deck of cards collapsing. The colossal and cumbersome Stonehenge like structures, further imbued with the spirit of chance and spontaneity, rest precariously atop one another. Colored lights strategically placed underneath and behind the rectangular heap, illuminate the stark black geometric bands that snake their way congruously along the main wall. The dimmed overhead lights make room for various shadows and refracted bands of color providing an appropriate backdrop for the newly deconstructed gallery space.
The result is a reimagined landscape that is strangely familiar, eliciting moments of quiet contemplation and inviting the viewer to assemble their own meaning.
