PASADENA, Texas – Three San Jacinto College women’s basketball players earned postseason honors with spots on the All-Region XIV, all-conference, and all-tournament teams. Vanessa Jones (Dallas / Flower Mound Marcus HS), Kaelynn Wilson (San Antonio / Karen Wagner HS), and Kristel Reid (Rosenberg / B.F. Terry HS) each received postseason recognition by the league.

Jones, a 5-10 sophomore guard, was named to the All-Region and All-conference teams, as well as the Region XIV All-tournament team. She played in all 33 games, making 32 starts. Her 13.6 points per game average was eighth in the nation, and she ranked second nationally in three point goals with 85 total (251 attempts). She also had 106 total assists, which was seventh best in the country. She has committed to continue her education and basketball career at Angelo State University, a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II institution, in San Angelo, Texas.

Wilson was an All-Region selection after averaging 13.3 points per game, a mark that ranked 10th overall. The 5-11 sophomore forward ranked seventh in the nation in total field goals (171-343), and was 20th in rebounds with a 5.7 per game average. 

Reid earned a spot on the All-Conference team and the Region XIV All-tournament team. The 5-10 sophomore wing played in all 33 games, starting in 20, averaging 7.8 points per game. She ranked 12th in the nation in rebounds per game with a 6.7 mark, and was among the nation’s top shooters at 42.7 percent (18th in the country). She has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her education and basketball career at the University of Texas – Permian Basin, a NCAA Division II institution in the Heartland Conference.

“We had a really successful season this year, in large part due to Vanessa, Kaelynn, and Kristel,” said Head Coach Michael Madrid, who led San Jac to the regional runner-up in his first season at the helm of the San Jacinto College women’s basketball program. “Each one is deserving of these honors, and I’m extremely proud of their success, along with that of their teammates.”

San Jac made history this season when it finished as the regional runner-up with a 22-11 overall record. San Jac defeated Trinity Valley Community College, 57-52, in semifinal action of the Region XIV tournament to advance to the championship game against Blinn College.

Tryouts for the 2016-2017 season are scheduled for Saturday, May 21, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at Nichols Gymnasium on the San Jacinto College North Campus.
