Some of Houston’s most popular food trucks will serve up their unique culinary flair to San Jacinto College students during the Spring 2016 semester.
Kreole Soul, Cousins Maine Lobster, D-Lish Curbside Bistro, Foreign Policy, The Waffle Bus, and a few others will visit all three San Jacinto College campuses in rotation for evening classes during the Spring 2016 semester.
“You don’t usually find lobster on the menu every day on campus,” said Cousins Main Lobster Houston food truck owner, Neil Werner. “We’re looking forward to bringing variety and exposing students to something a little different than their usual options- everything from our signature lobster rolls to lobster tacos and lobster quesadillas.”
D-Lish Curbside Bistro food truck owner Billy Flanagan adds that being based out of Houston’s Southeast side is also an advantage coming to the College. “San Jac is in our backyard,” said Flanagan. “Expanding our brand more to the Southeast side will allow us to build a more local customer base along with success we’ve seen in the greater Houston area. Food trucks are really popular with the younger crowd, and we have a little something for everyone, especially our poutine fries with our Southern, Gulf Coast kick.”
A few of the food trucks coming to the College have been featured on several popular food blogs and cooking programs. Cousins Maine Lobster was featured on the popular entrepreneur reality show Shark Tank in 2012, and after making a deal with Barbara Corcoran, business has been booming nationwide. Local favorite, The Waffle Bus, was featured on the Cooking Channel show Eat St., and D-Lish Curbside Bistro was featured in the popular food blogs Eater Houston and Thrillist.
“We needed to provide food options for our evening students and eliminate the service void,” said Hilda Boyce, director of auxiliary services at San Jacinto College. “Although we extended hours at the campus cafes, we weren’t capturing evening sales due in part to their location and time constraints. We are very excited to bring evening students the food variety and opportunity to experience a little taste of Houston’s food truck scene.”
The food trucks will begin serving during the Spring 2016 semester at each San Jacinto College campus. The food trucks’ rotation schedules and campus locations will be posted on each truck’s website or social media outlets, along with posted information at each campus and the College’s social media outlets.
