The San Jacinto College department of theatre and film will hold open public auditions for “Rashomon,” an award-winning drama that was a Broadway hit starring husband and wife performers Rod Steiger and Claire Bloom.

Auditions will be held Tuesday, Jan. 19, and Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. for adults 16 and older for a cast that will include up to 35 performers. Auditions will be held at the Powell Arena Theatre, located at 8060 Spencer Hwy. in Pasadena at the Central Campus. Enrollment at the College is not required, materials need not be prepared in advance, and all those auditioning should dress to move.

Rashomon” is billed as “a beautiful drama set in Kyoto, Japan” based on two short stories by renowned Japanese author Ryūnosuke Akutagawa. The 1950 film “Rashomon” was the first Japanese film to gain worldwide acclaim, earning an honorary International Academy Award and a Golden Lion award at the Venice Film Festival in 1951. It is considered one of the greatest films ever made, being the highest-ranked Japanese and Asian film in the Village Voice poll of Best Films of the Century.

Rehearsals begin Jan. 22, and the show opens Feb. 24.
