HOUSTON – The San Jacinto College women’s basketball team is ranked 24th in the most recent National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I women’s basketball poll.
With an overall record of 12-5 and 3-3 in conference play, San Jac is back in the national spotlight.
San Jac is led this season by sophomore phenome Eryka Sidney. The sophomore guard from Houston (Wheatley HS) is averaging 16.2 points per game, while shooting nearly 38 percent from long range. Sidney was a NJCAA honorable mention all-American last season and the Region XIV freshman of the year. She helped guide San Jac to its first-ever NJCAA national tournament appearance.
Three other sophomores average double-digit points for San Jac. Alexus Jones (Dallas / Aledo HS) owns a 14 point per game average, Alexis Bryant (Pflugerville / Pflugerville HS) checks in at 13.3 points per game, and Victoria Blankenship (Houston / North Shore HS / Tyler Junior College) is averaging 10.8 points per game. Bryant is also the team’s leading rebounder at 9.4 per game, while sophomore Maddison Glass (Missouri City / Fort Bend Hightower HS / New Mexico Junior College) leads the team in assists at 5.3 per game.
San Jac opened the season winning six of its first seven games. It currently owns a two-game win streak.
Next up for San Jac is a trip South to Coastal Bend College on Saturday, Jan. 13. The team returns home on Wednesday, Jan. 17 to face in-state rival Tyler Junior College. All San Jacinto College women’s basketball home games are played in Nichols Gymnasium on the San Jacinto College North Campus.
