Open Books at SJC

What is Open Books Plus?

Open Books Plus includes the cost of your required digital learning materials at an additional course charge on your schedule and fee statement at the lowest available costs.  These materials are available in your course on the first day of class.

Register for your courses

Courses that have adopted Open Books Plus materials display this information in the class schedule. When students register for an Open Books Plus course they will be automatically enrolled into the program.  These materials will be available to students in the course Blackboard site on the first day of the semester.

Can I opt-out of this fee?

Students may opt-out of Open Books Plus charges prior to the opt-out deadline.  This date is available in the Dates & Deadlines section of the SJC website http://www.sanjac.edu/refunds

This only applies if you a have already paid for your First Day Book charges or have a payment option in place.  Requests to opt-out or to cancel your opt-out must be submitted by 5 PM on the census date for the semester or additional session. Refunds will be issued following the College's standard refund process.

Requests to opt-out the Open Books Plus fee is submitted through the Course Materials section of your course in the SJC Blackboard system.  Opting our will result in not having access to your course materials in Blackboard, which could result in a higher cost to you and a delay in obtaining course materials.

What is Open Books?

Open Books (OER) courses will have no costs for required materials, as these courses use only free, online, open educational resources. These materials are available in your course on the first day of class.

Register for your courses

Courses that have adopted Open Books materials display this information in the class schedule.  When students register for an Open Books section there is no other action necessary on their part.  These materials will be available to students in the courses Blackboard site on the first day of the semester.

What is Open Books Low $?

Course materials for Open Books Low $ courses are part of the affordable learning initiative at SJC and are available for $50 or less at the SJC Bookstore.

Register for your courses

Courses that have adopted Open Books Low $ materials display this information in the class schedule. Students will need to purchase these course materials through the SJC Bookstores to guaranteed the costs are less the $50.
