Electrocardiogram (EKG) Technician Training

The Electrocardiogram (EKG) Technician Training program at San Jacinto College provides the fundamentals of anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system and the role of the electrocardiograph in patient assessment. Students will perform diagnostic tests to assess the heart rhythm and rate in patients.

An EKG technician is an integral part of the management of patients with heart disease and is employed by hospitals, medical/surgical clinics and insurance companies.

  • Anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system
  • Basic electrocardiography procedures
  • Basic dysrhythmias
  • Components of the EKG waveform to the physical activities of the heart
  • Interpret EKG’s using a sequential method
  • Identify ectopic beatss

This class prepares students to take the American Certification Agency for Healthcare Professionals Certification Exam for EKG Technician.
