San Jac awarded $54,000 through energy reduction partnership with CPower

PASADENA, Texas – San Jacinto College was recently awarded $54,593.19 through its continued participation in Texas’ ERS30 Demand Response Program, bringing the College’s total program earnings to more than $215,000 since fiscal year 2020. The incentive reflects the College’s ongoing commitment to reducing electricity usage during peak demand periods on the Texas power grid.

The College was recognized for this achievement during a recent check presentation with CPower Energy Management, the College’s demand response partner, held as part of San Jacinto College’s quarterly energy council meeting. College leadership, energy management staff, and representatives from CPower gathered to acknowledge the collaborative effort behind the program’s success.

The ERS30 Demand Response Program rewards organizations for voluntarily lowering energy consumption when statewide electricity demand is high. San Jacinto College participates across multiple campuses by strategically reducing usage during designated events – all while maintaining normal academic and operational activities.

The College’s participation is made possible through coordinated planning across facilities and HVAC teams, campus deans, information technology, and additional campus partners, ensuring seamless energy reduction without interrupting student learning or services.

“Reducing building energy consumption and taxpayers' energy costs through constant improvement efforts is just one of the ways the College strives to make San Jac degrees accessible,” said Chuck Smith, associate vice chancellor, fiscal initiatives. “By continuing to invest in demand response initiatives, San Jacinto College strengthens its role as a leader in operational sustainability and as an active contributor to a stronger, more resilient Texas energy system.”
