PASADENA, Texas — San Jacinto College nursing student Jennifer Niess has been recognized with the Flower Bud Award, an honor presented by HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake to nursing students who demonstrate exceptional compassion, professionalism, and patient-centered care.
Niess, who is projected to graduate from San Jacinto College’s Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program in August 2026, received the award after being nominated by HCA nurses who observed her poise, empathy, and dedication during clinical rotations.
“Receiving the Flower Bud Award is an incredible honor and a deeply meaningful affirmation of my commitment to nursing,” Niess said. “This award recognizes qualities such as compassion, empathy, professionalism, and dedication—values I strive to embody every day in clinical practice.”
Before entering the nursing field, Niess spent more than 12 years as a licensed massage therapist. That experience, she says, helped shape her approach to patient care and prepared her for the next phase of her career.
“Caring for others has always been at the center of my work. Transitioning into nursing has felt like a natural and purposeful next step,” she said. “Being nominated by practicing HCA nurses reassures me that my passion for patient care is evident in my actions and that I am on the path I am meant to be on.”
After completing the ADN program, Niess plans to take the NCLEX exam, begin her career on a medical-surgical floor, and then continue her education by pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Long term, she hopes to make a meaningful impact on patients and contribute to the future of the nursing profession.
San Jacinto College’s Nursing Department continues to partner with local healthcare providers to create strong learning experiences and pathways to employment for students like Niess—future nurses committed to serving their communities with skill and heart.
