PASADENA, Texas — San Jacinto College has been awarded a $50,000 Local Impact Grant from the Deloitte Foundation to cover the cost of industry-recognized CompTIA certification exams and preparation resources for students pursuing cybersecurity and information technology careers.
The grant will fund an occupational skills award program to support approximately 165 high school students, college students, and young adults enrolled in select 2026 San Jacinto College IT and cybersecurity pathways. These certifications can be essential steppingstones into high-demand technology careers, but the cost can be a hurdle for some students.
Through this grant, San Jacinto College will cover CompTIA certification exam fees and related preparation packages for eligible students, enabling them to earn credentials that can help to strengthen their employability in a rapidly evolving digital workforce. Supported programs include certificates of technology, associate of applied science and bachelor’s degrees in cybersecurity.
“Thanks to the Deloitte Foundation’s support, more students will be able to earn critical credentials that can help position them for success in Houston’s growing cybersecurity and information technology sectors,” said Amanda Fenwick, interim executive director, San Jacinto College Foundation. “This grant reflects a commitment to helping build a well-prepared workforce for our region.”
The Deloitte Foundation Local Impact Grants initiative supports education-focused nonprofits across the U.S., helping expand opportunities for the next generation of learners and workforce leaders. The Foundation’s grant to San Jacinto College can help reduce financial obstacles and help increase pathways into technology fields that anchor the Gulf Coast economy.
“Education can help build better futures for the next generation of business leaders,” said Melinda Yee, Houston managing partner, Deloitte LLP. “With the Deloitte Foundation’s support, more students in the Houston area can work towards their education and career aspirations as well as gain certifications and skills that can prepare them for the future of work.”
