Twenty-six San Jacinto College music students have been selected for the Texas Two-Year College All-State choir and band — the highest honor a Texas community college music student can attain. The students qualified across ensembles, demonstrating excellence in multiple musical disciplines.
Each year, the Texas Music Educators Association hosts auditions for the all-state
ensembles. During the rigorous selection process, students must demonstrate advanced
technical skills, musical interpretation, and proficiency.
“Seeing our students selected for the All-State Band is an incredible honor, and I
couldn’t be prouder of their dedication and musical growth,” said Graham Tobin, Central
Campus music professor. “Their achievements reflect not only their own hard work,
but the strength of our entire band program. What they learn through this experience
— the musicianship, discipline, and inspiration — comes back with them and enriches
our ensemble in powerful, lasting ways.”
San Jac's music program has long been recognized for its excellence, preparing students for professional music careers and seamless transfer to four-year universities.
“When my students qualify for TMEA honors, it's incredibly rewarding,” said Travis Maslen, North Campus music professor. “This achievement represents years of commitment, discipline, and musical growth. It’s exciting to see that dedication recognized on such a prestigious stage.”
The students will perform with other all-state musicians during the annual Texas Music Educators Association conference, scheduled for Feb. 11-14, at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio. Each year, nearly 30,000 attendees gather for the TMEA Clinic/Convention, making it one of the largest music education events in the nation.
This gathering brings together music educators, students, families, visitors, and exhibitors for an unparalleled experience of professional development, performances, and networking.
