
The San Jacinto College Ravens softball team capped a 42-26 season with a Region XIV South Conference championship and the program’s eighth appearance at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Championship, earning national recognition both on the field and in postseason awards.
The Ravens’ regular season featured key conference wins that helped position the team for a strong postseason run. San Jac also earned statement victories over nationally competitive Region XIV opponents, including Galveston College, Blinn College, and nationally ranked McLennan Community College, highlighting its ability to perform in high-pressure matchups.
“This group ‘s determination, resilience, and commitment to one another carried us to a conference championship, a Mid-South District title, and now our eighth trip to the NJCAA World Series. This group has earned everything they've achieved,” said Kelly Saenz, Ravens head coach. “We couldn't be prouder of how they've represented our program, our college, and our community”
The Ravens were sent off to the national tournament May 22 as students, faculty, staff, parents and community members gathered to show their support before the team’s trip to the championship tournament.
The Ravens opened national tournament play May 25 with a 7-0 shutout victory over McCook Community College. The team’s run came to a close the following day, falling 2-1 to Florida Southwestern State College before dropping a 10-1 decision to Arizona Western College.
The team’s postseason success was recognized with several honors. The Ravens claimed the Mid-South District B championship and finished as Region XIV runner-up, while head coach Kelly Saenz earned Mid-South District DI Softball Coach of the Year and Region XIV Coach of the Year honors.
The Ravens also earned numerous individual postseason awards, highlighted by two standout performers.
Pitcher Kaelin Hicks (Crosby HS/Crosby) earned First Team All-Conference honors and was named Conference Pitcher of the Year, in addition to earning a spot on the All-Region First Team. Hicks has committed to the Colorado School of Mines, where she will study mechanical engineering this fall.
Outfielder Madelyn Perez (London HS/Corpus Christi) was named South Conference Player of the Year, First Team All-Conference, First Team All-Region, and earned First Team All-American honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association along with NFCA First Team Midwest Region recognition as a designated player.
