The San Jacinto College South Campus Gallery presents “Click Bait”, a multimedia exhibition featuring ten artists from across Texas whose practices engage digital tools, emerging technologies, and contemporary modes of image-making. On view from Thursday, Jan. 29 through Saturday, March 7, the exhibition brings together work spanning photography, video, animation, and digitally driven fabrication processes through computer-aided design.
The artists included in “Click Bait” use technology not only as a tool, but as a subject—examining how digital systems shape perception, identity, labor, and value in an era dominated by screens, platforms, and algorithmic influence. These practices blur boundaries between the virtual and physical, the handmade and machine-assisted, and examines the contemporary creative process.
“Click Bait” features work by Kalee Appleton, Melanie Clemmons, Bryan Cope, Lina Dib, Ryan Goolsby, Timothy Harding, Zak Loyd, Paho Mann, Leigh Merrill, and Kris Pierce. Collectively, these artists represent a wide range of approaches to digital practice, from lens-based media and networked video to sculptural works fabricated through CNC routers and other computer-aided design processes.
In addition to the exhibition, visitors are invited to participate in an interactive installation titled IRL/Place, which transforms pixel-based digital aesthetics into a tactile, collaborative experience. Using small glass tiles, visitors can create pixel art compositions in real space, echoing the logic of screens, grids, and online image culture while emphasizing collaboration, gaming, and physical engagement.
Two public receptions will accompany the exhibition. A weekday reception on Wednesday, Feb. 4 is designed to be accessible to students and San Jacinto College employees, while a closing reception on Saturday, March 7 invites community members to experience the exhibition over the weekend. All events and exhibitions at the gallery are free and open to visitors of all ages.
