Surgical technologists are primarily hired by hospitals, although private specialty practices in fields such as ophthalmology, neurosurgery, orthopedics, and plastic/reconstructive surgery also hire them.

Surgical Technology, AAS

Technical Degree
The Associate of Applied Science degree prepares you for an entry-level career. You’ll get hands-on operating room experience, learning how to prep equipment, supplies, and meds, pass instruments, monitor counts, care for specimens, apply dressings, and operate equipment like lights, machines, and endoscopes.
Length 1.5 Years

This 60-credit program takes 3 terms to complete, including a summer term. Students must attend full-time.

 

Accreditation

The Surgical Technology program is accredited by the Commission for Accreditation for Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Upon receiving the AAS degree, the graduate is eligible to take the National Certification exam by the National Board of Surgical Technologists and Surgical Assistants. The state of Texas requires all surgical technologists to be certified.
