This September, Lindsay and Anthony Banks will celebrate 20 years of marriage.
Dr. Lindsay Banks, DC, MS, CFMP, has been a San Jacinto College employee for 10 years. She is the department chair of allied health sciences at the North Campus, overseeing department operations and supervising the medical assisting, mental health services, emergency medical services, pharmacy technician, and health information management programs. She provides support to faculty and staff, assigns teaching loads, manages departmental budgets, and ensures smooth daily operations across all programs.
Anthony Banks is the athletic facility coordinator at the North Campus. He’s been a College employee for two years, maintaining a supervised and welcoming environment for students. In his role, he makes sure students are being safe, respectful, and are knowledgeable about the facility. He also promotes a positive mindset, healthy lifestyle, and being as physically active as possible.
We believe every employee plays a part in our goal of student success. How do you think your role contributes to that goal?
Lindsay: My role as department chair plays a huge role in student success. From ensuring we provide a curriculum that thoroughly prepares our students for the workforce, to advising students on the many career options in the healthcare field and keeping students informed about the resources they need to be successful both in and out of the classroom.
Anthony: Students enjoy coming to the facility to workout, play basketball, and participate in a variety of physical activities. This helps build healthy habits for life. The facility also offers a place for students to connect and bond which helps to strengthen social skills and encourage positive relationships between staff and students.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Lindsay: Growing up it was instilled in me that education was the key to success. I enjoy being a part of our students’ educational journeys and seeing them grow into working professionals who can provide for their families. We are providing opportunities for students to be able to thrive in life, and that brings me joy.
Anthony: I enjoy interacting with the students and seeing them mature and become young adults.
How did you two meet?
Lindsay: We are high school sweethearts. We were in the same geography class, and one day he asked me for my phone number. We started talking on the phone every day, even when he graduated and went away to the Army, we wrote letters and talked on the phone. I still have all the letters he wrote me while he was away in the Army.
Anthony: In geography class, she had a bit of an attitude, and I have to admit, it intimidated me. Instead of asking her directly, I asked her best friend at the time for her number. She agreed to give it to me, but when she did, she handed it over with that same attitude.
Tell us about the first date.
Lindsay: If I remember correctly, our first date was to the movies. We went to see “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” We were still in high school, so at that time, the movies were the thing to do.
Anthony: It was a movie date. I was running a little behind for the date. I had to convince my mom to allow me to use her car. I’m so grateful she did.
What was the first thing you realized you liked about each other?
Lindsay: I liked his sense of humor. To this day, he keeps me laughing.
Anthony: Like I said, she had a bit of an attitude, but when it came to me, she seemed shy. I noticed how kind she was with me; it was as if her attitude disappeared, and that’s when I knew she liked me.
Tell us about the proposal and wedding day.
Lindsay: By this time, we were young parents (23 and 26) to our first son who was one, and we had moved from our hometown of Alton, Illinois, to Chesterfield, Missouri, so I could have a shorter commute to go to Chiropractic school. I didn’t know he was going to propose that night; I was just looking forward to a kid-free weekend because my parents were babysitting. We went out to dinner and towards the end of the meal, he popped the question, and I said yes! I immediately called my parents to tell them the news.
Our wedding day was a beautiful fall celebration in our hometown on Sept. 30, 2006. Our colors were apple red and champagne. We had a large wedding party, including seven bridesmaids, seven groomsmen, three flower girls, and two ring bearers. The day was filled with special touches, from an ice sculpture engraved with our names to a horse and carriage ride. We celebrated with more than 175 of our family and friends.
Anthony: I was very nervous when I proposed, but it felt natural! I knew we were meant to be together. Honestly, she planned the whole wedding. She would occasionally ask me my opinion, but I knew ultimately, she was going to choose what she wanted. Until this day, we still get compliments for how nice our wedding was. It was a day to remember.
What is it like working at the same place?
Lindsay: It’s pretty cool to work at the same place; our buildings are right next to each other. We occasionally grab lunch together, and it’s always nice when there is an event in the gym, and I can go over to see him while supporting the students. Not to mention, being able to carpool saves money and I get to be a passenger princess most days.
Anthony: It's great! I love saving money on gas. It’s more time we get to spend together.
What are some couple activities/hobbies you like to do?
Lindsay: We are very active. We like to go for bike rides, walks in nature, exercise, and travel to explore other cities. We also love a good movie night at home.
Anthony: I like being pulled into a good TV series. This has happened quite a few times. It’s hard for me to be still, but I always stop to watch a good TV series with my boo!
Do you have a special song?
Lindsay: Our wedding song is “Spend My Life With You” by Eric Benet and Tamia. It’s such a beautiful song.
Anthony: What she said. It's a great song!
Today, what would you say is your favorite thing about your spouse?
Lindsay: My favorite thing about Anthony is that he has such a kind heart and will go out of his way to help others. He also supported me throughout my career. Even when I got the offer to work at San Jac, he supported our move across the country.
Anthony: She is my best friend! I love how well she takes care of herself mentally and physically.
