Services We Offer
In addition to offering free after-school tutoring during the week, Upward Bound also offers Saturday programs twice each month, and two-week long summer programs starting in June—all free of charge for participants. Learn more about these services.
Saturday Programs
Twice a month, Upward Bound students have the opportunity to explore exciting topics in the areas of math, science, literature, psychology, Spanish, and more. These sessions introduce students to a wide variety of career opportunities, and are often facilitated by experts in the field. As part of this program, students may have the opportunity to go on field trips to college campuses, and other cultural and educational events.
Summer Programs
This two-week program is designed to expose students to a college environment. They enroll in courses that will help them prepare for the upcoming school year and get exposed to new activities and experiences.
At the end of the program, students travel out of state to tour colleges. They fly to the location, spend a week sleeping in university residence halls, tour several universities in that area, and visit local attractions.
Students are advised according to their own educational goals. They are assessed based on their learning styles, career assessment, grades and test scores. We prepare each student to successfully complete the High School Recommended or Distinguished Plan, assist them with financial aid applications, scholarship applications, college applications, and more.
Apply for Free Services
We are currently accepting applications from 9th and 10th grade students that attend Galena Park High School. Every March, we start recruiting rising 9th graders from Woodland Acres Middle School, Galena Park Middle School and Alice Johnson Middle School.
To complete the application, you will need:
- Copy of parent’s most recent tax return/proof of income
- Copy of applicant’s birth certificate
- Copy of the applicant’s social security card
- Copy of applicant’s resident alien card (if applicable)
- Copy of immunization record
- 8th grade STAAR scores or recent test scores
- Copy of the applicant’s transcript or recent grades
All information will be kept confidential and used only to determine eligibility for the TRiO Upward Bound Program. Please include all required information in order to be considered.
