Imagine walking onto campus, equipped with everything you need to succeed —without
the burden of debt hanging over your head. That's exactly what the Promise Scholarship
offers.
Get coverage of your associate degree or certificate at San Jac, including tuition,
books, and supplies, applied after financial aid. Let's get started!
Becoming a Promise Scholar
The Promise Scholarship program has been developed for students who live in the San
Jacinto College taxing district at the time of high school graduation. These funds
are intended to cover in-district tuition, books, and required supplies for a 3-year
period for full-time attendance at San Jac. Here's how to become a San Jac Promise
scholar!
April 30 deadline: Take the next step toward a debt-free education by submitting your FAFSA or TASFA.
Please make sure to list San Jacinto College (003609) as your higher education institution.
The Promise Scholarship will cover 100% of your in-district tuition after other aid,
grants, and scholarships are applied.
You’re almost there! Meet with your advisor to confirm your courses and get ready
to register. Once your hold is lifted, you’ll be all set to take the next step toward
your San Jac journey.
Additionally, portions of Clear Creek, Humble, and Pearland ISDs that are in the San
Jac taxing district may also be eligible. Please check with admissions to see if you're
in district.
Private school and homeschool students who graduate from high school in the current
academic school year and live in the San Jac taxing district at the time of graduation
are eligible.
Students must either be enrolled at an in-district high school or live in the district
(for private and homeschool students) by October 1 of the current school year.
Students must meet all Promise deadlines.
Promise funding is awarded last dollar, after financial aid has paid. Students must
accept all gift aid for which they are eligible, including Pell and state grants.
Dual Credit students who have graduated from high school between December 1, 2025,
and August 15, 2026, and who have not completed a degree at San Jac, may use Promise funds to complete their associate
degree.
Dual credit students who have graduated from high school between December 1, 2025,
and August 15, 2026, and who have completed studies at San Jac with a certificate may use the scholarship to pursue
an associate degree.

The scholarship begins in the fall semester immediately following high school graduation.
Students who begin in the spring semester or after are not eligible for the scholarship.
The scholarship ends at the conclusion of the summer term of the third year of enrollment,
upon earning an associate degree or when the student reaches the max credit limit
of 72 college credit hours – whichever comes first.
Students must enroll for a minimum of 12 credit hours each fall and spring semester.
Students enrolled in college preparatory courses may enroll in a minimum of 11 credit
hours.
Exceptions to the mandatory credit hour requirement can be made and approved by a
Promise program coordinator. For more information, please email Promise@sjcd.edu.

in a recognized credential.

degree but may not complete a second certificate of technology.
Students may continue their studies to earn a related associate degree after completing
a workforce training or certificate program.
Students who pursue a non-credit workforce program may be eligible to transition to
a related credit credential.
The Promise scholarship may not be used to pay tuition for the summer semester following
high school graduation. The Promise scholarship may be used to pay tuition for subsequent
summer semesters.
Students will not receive a refund of any unspent Promise dollars.
The scholarship covers 100% in district tuition. If a student is classified out of
district, out of state, or international, they will need to pay the difference between
in district tuition and their actual tuition rate.
Students may use Promise dollars toward college preparatory courses.
The scholarship will cover required college preparatory hours for a maximum of 2 attempts
per course. College preparatory courses will not count against the 72 total hours.
The scholarship will not pay for any three-peat charges.

$600. Books can be either Open Books Plus or hard copy. Hard copy books are paid for
through a bookstore stipend/credit.
The scholarship also covers required course materials and supplies, and/or uniforms
up to the total book and supply maximum of $600.

safe and loved when they are in my classroom."
Leitia Arenas
"For the longest time, my lifetime goal was to help as many people as possible—no
matter what barriers stood in my way. I hope to soon become a pediatric nurse to bring
smiles to the young and innocent faces of our future. I’m so blessed to receive this
help—because now I can focus on helping others, just like I’ve always wanted."
Francisco Zavala

long run for a university and focusing on making better grades for future scholarships."

income that allows my family and me to do more for ourselves."
