Medical Laboratory Technology Admission Information

Medical lab technicians across the country help providers make critical discoveries and diagnoses every day. Start your path with a degree or certificate in Medical Lab Technology.

How to Apply

After you’ve been admitted to San Jac, follow these steps to prepare for your program. By the way, if you haven't applied to San Jac, you'll need to do that first.

The Medical Lab Technology program is a selective admission program that admits students based on the number of available clinical sites. 

If you have any questions or just want to talk to someone about the program, please reach out to us.
  1. Attend an Information Session

    We're excited to have you join us. All applicants are required to attend an information session. Our friendly faculty and staff will walk you through the program details and guide you through the application process. This will be a great opportunity to get your questions answered and take the first step toward your future as a medical lab technician. 

  2. Review Application Information

    Before jumping into the program, it’s important to review the application information form. This form provides a comprehensive overview of everything you need to know about getting started in the medical lab technology program.

  3. Complete Prerequisite Courses

    Before you can be accepted into the program, you’ll need to earn a grade of C or higher in all prerequisite courses.

    • MATH 1314
    • ENGL 1301
    • MLAB 1201
    Students must also take BIOL 2404 or one of the following combinations (earning a grade of C or higher):
    • BIOL 2301/2101 or BIOL 2401
    • BIOL 2302/2102

  4. Submit Previous Work History

    Previous work history can contribute additional points to the scoring rubric. Use this form to submit any experience you think might be relevant. 

    Please be sure to upload the completed and signed verification (VOE) form as part of your application.

  5. Apply to the Medical Laboratory Technology Program

    Applications are accepted April 1 - June 1 for fall entrance and September 1 - December 1 for spring entrance.

  6. Create a Verified Credentials Account

    Applicants will need to set up and complete a Verified Credentials account. This will include submitting the following information:

    • BLS certification
    • Immunization tracker
    • Background check
    • Drug screen
    • Proof of medical insurance

  7. Submit Immunization Documentation

    Ensure you’re up to date on all required immunizations, including tuberculosis, varicella, hepatitis B and C, the flu, and COVID-19. Use Verified Credentials to submit your documentation.

  8. Submit Your Transcripts

    All applicants—especially those looking to transfer credits—must submit official transcripts from all previously attended institutions, including high school and San Jac.
