Medical Lab Assistant Admissions

Ready to take the next step and apply for San Jacinto College's Medical Lab Assistant program? We've streamlined the application process to make it easy for you. Get all the information you need, and never hesitate to reach out with questions.

How to Apply

In our Medical Lab Assistant program, you'll become skilled in specimen collection, lab data reporting, and basic healthcare testing. Gain valuable experience alongside healthcare professionals through classes, labs, and hospital placements. After one year, take the national certification exam.
  1. Apply to San Jac

    Apply at applytexas.org to become a student at San Jac.

  2. Apply to the MLA Program

    Use the blue button link to apply to the Medical Lab Assistant program. Applications are accepted April 1 - June 1 for Fall entrance and September 1 - December 1 for Spring entrance.

  3. CastleBranch

    Students are required to create and complete a CastleBranch account which will include: 

    • BLS Certification
    • Immunization Tracker
    • Background Check
    • Drug Screen
    • Proof of Medical Insurance

  4. Submit Your Transcripts

    All students—especially those looking to transfer credits—must submit official transcripts from all previously attended institutions, including high school and San Jac.

  5. Submit Immunization Documentation

    Ensure you’re up to date on all required immunizations, including tuberculosis, varicella, hepatitis B and C, the flu, and COVID-19. Use CastleBranch to submit your documentation, or work with your doctor to retrieve your documentation and submit it directly to the department.

  6. Submit Previous Work History

    In some cases, students might be able to transfer previous medical work history into course credits. Use the form to submit any experience you think might be relevant.

  7. Attend an Information Session

    Prior to applying to the program, all students are required to attend an information session, where students can ask faculty and staff critical questions about the program. Sessions are held over Zoom.
