Diagnostic Medical Sonography Admission Information
Who knew that high-frequency sound could produce life-saving images?! In the sonography program at San Jac, you’ll learn all about this innovative technology — and so much more. Here’s everything you need to know about the application process.
Applying to the Program

Get Accepted to San Jac
Before you can apply to the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program, you will need to apply and get accepted to San Jacinto College. Once that's done, follow the rest of the steps below.

Attend an Information Session
All students applying to the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program are required to attend an information session before applying. In this session, you’ll learn everything you need to know about the program — and get access to a program application.

Gather Official Transcripts
Next, request official transcripts from all the schools you’ve attended — including San Jacinto College. You will need to submit these to San Jacinto College along with your program application.

Process Degree Evaluation
Head to the Secure Online System (SOS). Here you will process and print your degree evaluation for the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program AAS degree. Choose the catalog (school) year you are applying for. Include with your application.

Gather any National Certifications
If you have any national or state recognized certifications in a healthcare field, gather those and submit them with your program application.

Work History Form
If you have direct patient care work experience, submit your work history form. Please allow time for your former or current supervisor to sign. Include with your application.

Complete Your Prereqs
Before you can apply to the sonography program, you’ll need to receive a grade of C or higher in your required prerequisite courses. Students applying for the Fall 2024 class or later will need to take the following prerequisite courses to apply:
- Math 1314 College Algebra
- BIOL 2301 and BIOL 2101 Anatomy and Physiology I lecture and Lab
- SCIT 1420 Physics for Allied Health
- DMSO 1110 Introduction to Sonography

Complete the HESI A2 Exam
Required for all radiography and sonography students, the HESI A2 exam is a 4.5 -hour timed, computerized test that evaluates your readiness for the program. Be sure to read the HESI A2 instruction packet.

Apply
When you’ve completed the above steps (you can also print out our application checklist) you’re ready to apply to the sonography program. Submit an application between April 1 and June 15. You’ll be notified within two to three weeks after the application deadline.
Applications will be evaluated with our admission scoring rubric.

Additional Information
- The program is paid for by the semester. All tuition and fees must be paid in full before published deadline dates.
- “In-District” includes the following Independent School Districts: Channelview, Deer Park, Galena Park, La Porte, Pasadena and Sheldon. Students who are not residents of Texas, including foreign students, will be required to pay additional fees.
- Students are responsible for their expenses incurred while in the program. Students are required to furnish their own travel related to their clinical educational experiences.
- Financial aid is available through the Financial Aid office. This program qualifies for Texas Workforce funding.
- Students in this program may qualify for Perkins Grants.
- Books are purchased in the first year and are used throughout the program.
- Additional course materials are purchased in the 3rd semester ($125) and 5th semester ($250)
