College police were recognized at a recent Board of Trustees meeting.

"Since 2014, SJCPD has been using Lexipol to maintain a consistent and professional response to the community we serve," said administrative lieutenant Marisol Gamboa. "Our top priority is the safety of the College community and its police officers. Our excellence in policy and policy training enhances community safety. We're excited to deliver a standard of excellence through policy efforts that reduces risk for our personnel and those we serve."

Lexipol is one of the nation's leading content, policy, and training platforms for public safety agencies. The Connect program tracks performance on five metrics proven to measure success in policy management, which include policies issued, updates pending, daily training bulletins issued, policies acknowledged, and daily training bulletins completed.

Silver, the second-highest recognition level, shows that the department has not only kept its policy manual up to date but also had officers acknowledge new and updated policies and complete more than 70% of daily training bulletins. These bulletins are short training scenarios Lexipol writes and issues for each policy annually and anytime a new law revises a policy.

In 2020, College officers responded to approximately 2,000 requests for help, ranging from injured people to vehicle thefts.

"Changes in the law occur frequently, and the San Jacinto College community benefits from officers who are knowledgeable about those changes," said College Chief of Police Bruce Caldwell. "Lexipol is an integral part of our policy management and training. Using daily training bulletins, our officers better understand the application of law enforcement in an educational environment. Well-informed, well-trained officers help the police department deliver service more efficiently."
