Manufacturing Day introduces middle school students to industry careers
San Jacinto College held its first-ever Manufacturing Day Oct. 15 at the LyondellBasell Center for Petrochemical, Energy, & Technology to introduce the next generation to industrial workforce opportunities.
Partnering with Air Products, BSAF, INEOS, and Dream It. Do It., the College hosted approximately 45 students from Deer Park ISD's Deepwater Junior High and Pasadena ISD's Bondy Intermediate.
CPET, which opened this fall to 2,800 students, is the Gulf Coast region's largest petrochemical training facility.
The eighth graders toured CPET classrooms, viewing equipment and learning about petrochemical training, then enjoyed lunch provided by Dream It. Do It. Southeast Texas Chapter.
Afterward, students toured Air Products, an industrial gas company, to learn about industry workforce needs and the job market.
The San Jacinto College Strategic Initiatives, Workforce Development, Community Relations, and Diversity Office organized Manufacturing Day. The local event aligned with the National Association of Manufacturers' annual efforts to teach youth about the modern manufacturing industry.
